Knowledge Enterprise Development at Arizona State University issued the following announcement.
As voted on by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women's water polo head coaches, the conference announced the preseason coaches' poll on Thursday and the Sun Devils have been picked to finish fifth in the nation's top collegiate water polo conference.
Since the first year of the championship (2001), the national champion has come from the MPSF in every season in UCLA (seven times), USC (five times) and reigning national champion Stanford (seven times). This tough conference schedule tests and prepares the Sun Devils to compete well each year.
ASU was picked at No. 5 in the poll behind USC, UCLA, Stanford and Cal, the four teams that would eventually make up the Semifinal of the 2019 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship. The team finished last season at No. 5 at MPSF Championships and ranked No. 10 in the nation.
The Sun Devils open this season on Saturday, Jan. 25 with two games against Ottawa University of Arizona at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m at their home pool, the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The following weekend, the team opens tournament play hosting the three-day Cross-Conference Challenge.
