Cheryl Ann Turner passed away after a 6-year struggle with cancer surrounded by family at home on 2/1/20. Although Cherie was born in Canton, OH in 1952, she moved to Arizona at the age of 8. She attended Alhambra High School and Glendale Community College. She married, “Buz” in 1970 and had two daughters, Shawna and Tonya. She was a wonderful friend, wife, mother and grandmother. She truly enjoyed working as the secretary for athletics at Apollo, Cortez and Washington High Schools for her entire career. When she wasn’t working, she supported all of Buz’s coaching, family time, tailgating at the SDSU football games, camping, fishing, waterskiing, golf, tennis, casinos and everything about the ocean. Cherie and her family shared a great love for Mexico and camping with friends. They put blood, sweat and tears into a beautiful 2 story beach house in Puerto Penasco. She spent decades there with family and friends creating some amazing memories and enjoying the Sea of Cortez. In recent years, you could find her smiling and sitting in the driver’s seat of her motorhome heading out to see new sights.
She was so fortunate to have traveled as much as they did during their 51 years together. Cherie is preceded in death by her brother, mother and father. She is survived by her husband “Buz”, and daughters, Shawna (Jeremy, fiance) and Tonya (Keith, husband) as well as her 3 sisters, Cindy (Keith, husband), Dawn (Greg, husband) and Brenda. She is also survived by 5 very special grandchildren, Kenny (Haley, wife), Austin, Turner, Lexi and Tegan. She has one sweet great-granddaughter, Kenley. She loved them so dearly. Cherie will always be remembered by her gorgeous and loving smile and her unforgettable warm hugs. Cherie is our forever shining star and her legacy is “Always love each other.”
A Celebration of her Life will be held on February 29th at 2 pm for immediate family and open house from 3-5 pm at the Turner's home.
